Yellowstone Trail

Yellowstone Trail was one of the first coast to coast roads in America. It was formed around 1912 or 1913 and came through northern Indiana. Shown is a stretch of the former Yellowstone Trail west of Larwill in Whitley County. Here, the road is now known as Old Trail Road. Yellowstone Trail receives nowhere near the attention other early American roads such as the Lincoln Highway and Route 66 do. For more information, visit yellowstonetrail.org. Marshall County Historical Society Museum in Plymouth has information as part of a roads exhibit and also sells books about the trail.

About historynut11

My name is Tim Ashley and I am a newspaper editor/reporter/photographer in Milford, Indiana, and live in nearby Goshen, Indiana. A deeply held and sincere passion of mine is history and learning from the past. I enjoy a wide variety of history topics, but particularly local history, noted American highways (Lincoln Highway and Route 66), railroad history and the Civil War. I believe we can learn much from the past and that past shapes who we are today. I also enjoy visiting museums and historical sites, as well as taking photos of remnants from the past still standing.
