Reminder of former farm

Abandoned farm barns are fairly common in northern Indiana, but this one tends to stand out a bit more because it is a pretty large one. It is along County Road 45 near Ox Bow County Park in Elkhart County. Those who grew up in the area will likely recall the property was owned several years ago by the Hoover family. County property records indicate the barn was built in 1900. You won’t really see it in a car, but take a walk or bicycle ride up and down County Road 45 between Dunlap and Goshen and you will notice several remnants of long ago farms, such as partial fence rows left standing, fence corner posts, etc.

About historynut11

My name is Tim Ashley and I am a newspaper editor/reporter/photographer in Milford, Indiana, and live in nearby Goshen, Indiana. A deeply held and sincere passion of mine is history and learning from the past. I enjoy a wide variety of history topics, but particularly local history, noted American highways (Lincoln Highway and Route 66), railroad history and the Civil War. I believe we can learn much from the past and that past shapes who we are today. I also enjoy visiting museums and historical sites, as well as taking photos of remnants from the past still standing.
