Former basketball home of the Jimmies

Those who like the old time high school gyms will surely enjoy this if they haven’t already been inside it. This is the old Jimtown High School gym, built in 1929 when the school was known as Baugo Township High School. It is near the intersection of county roads 3 and 22 in Elkhart County. And it has the feel of classic older gyms. The crowd was right on top of the action on the floor. The gym hasn’t been used for athletic contests for more than 30 years, though it did serve as a practice facility for wrestling and other sports for a while. Presently it is used for storage. Thanks again to athletic director Bill Sharpe for the personal tour.

About historynut11

My name is Tim Ashley and I am a newspaper editor/reporter/photographer in Milford, Indiana, and live in nearby Goshen, Indiana. A deeply held and sincere passion of mine is history and learning from the past. I enjoy a wide variety of history topics, but particularly local history, noted American highways (Lincoln Highway and Route 66), railroad history and the Civil War. I believe we can learn much from the past and that past shapes who we are today. I also enjoy visiting museums and historical sites, as well as taking photos of remnants from the past still standing.
