Former state road in Goshen

Middlebury Street (known as County Road 22 outside the town limits) in Goshen was once a state road, as evidenced by this small concrete marker. It is an old state highway right of way marker. One of the very first state roads surveyed in northern Indiana was the Logansport Road  in 1830. It entered Elkhart County from just north of Milford Junction (Kosciusko County) on what is now Old State Road 15. It then followed the path of the current State Road 15 through Goshen and then Middlebury Street on its way to Middlebury. The elements have obviously taken a toll on the concrete marker.

About historynut11

My name is Tim Ashley and I am a newspaper editor/reporter/photographer in Milford, Indiana, and live in nearby Goshen, Indiana. A deeply held and sincere passion of mine is history and learning from the past. I enjoy a wide variety of history topics, but particularly local history, noted American highways (Lincoln Highway and Route 66), railroad history and the Civil War. I believe we can learn much from the past and that past shapes who we are today. I also enjoy visiting museums and historical sites, as well as taking photos of remnants from the past still standing.
