Former Millersburg Train Station

A train station once served as a community gathering place. Often a depot was the place to connect to the outside world. Shown is the former Wabash Railroad depot of Millersburg, Elkhart County. The Wabash RR was abandoned several years ago in the entire county. But someone decided the old depot was worth saving and had it moved to an Amish farm on County Road 37 near Millersburg. It is not everyday you can see a former train station while driving in the countryside.

About historynut11

My name is Tim Ashley and I am a newspaper editor/reporter/photographer in Milford, Indiana, and live in nearby Goshen, Indiana. A deeply held and sincere passion of mine is history and learning from the past. I enjoy a wide variety of history topics, but particularly local history, noted American highways (Lincoln Highway and Route 66), railroad history and the Civil War. I believe we can learn much from the past and that past shapes who we are today. I also enjoy visiting museums and historical sites, as well as taking photos of remnants from the past still standing.

Thanks very much for your site and what you do.
I live in Western New York State and an a history especially rail road “nut” That station that was moved to the Amish property must have been quite an under taking as it appears to be a large structure.
