Former miniature golf course near North Webster

During the spring, summer or fall, it’s hard to top miniature golf for a fun family outing. Or even with just a few friends. A popular miniature golf course, Lakeview, was once located south of North Webster, Kosciusko County, along State Road 13. It was near Kuhn Lake, part of the Barbee chain of lakes. It was a very popular course and well designed. In other words, if you hit the ball in a certain direction it was carefully designed for a certain result, depending on which hole you were playing. The course closed in the 1970s and not much remains except the remnants of the sign along route 13. There was even a railroad caboose on the grounds, which is still there today. And this was just right across the road from the flowing well, a well known landmark.

About historynut11

My name is Tim Ashley and I am a newspaper editor/reporter/photographer in Milford, Indiana, and live in nearby Goshen, Indiana. A deeply held and sincere passion of mine is history and learning from the past. I enjoy a wide variety of history topics, but particularly local history, noted American highways (Lincoln Highway and Route 66), railroad history and the Civil War. I believe we can learn much from the past and that past shapes who we are today. I also enjoy visiting museums and historical sites, as well as taking photos of remnants from the past still standing.

I remember spending a lot of time at the miniature golf courses on either side of SR13 in the town of North Webster, but I don’t recall ever playing the one south of town.

I’ve had a few people tell me that or they get it confused with the one that was in North Webster. I think they may have drawn their crowds from more around Barbee Lake and points south, too, such as around Pierceton.

Not only was there a miniature golf course, but also a huge pool table that you could play, kind of like playing croquet except on a larger than life pool table! There was also another miniature golf course north of Webster and south of Syracuse called “Tigers”. You can see it on the left side of the road as you are heading north towards Syracuse!
